Counselling & Psychotherapy

If you are looking at this page then it’s likely you are thinking about having counselling.  I remember my first session with a therapist.  I was so anxious.  I didn’t know what to expect or whether or not it would work for me.  It’s really important that you find the right therapist for you.  Someone that can best support you to move forwards and make the changes you wish to.

This page will hopefully give you a bit of an insight into the counselling I offer based on the questions I am often asked.  If you feel you need something different, please contact me and I will see if I can signpost you to someone else.

What Type of Counselling and Psychotherapy Do You Offer?

The relationship I develop with clients is the most important part of the therapeutic process.  It can be really hard to talk about issues we find painful.  Often clients will open up more to a therapist than they would to anyone else in their lives.  For that reason I know it is vital that I make people feel safe and cared for.  Clients tell me that I am easy to talk to, offer great insight into their problems and support them to move forwards positively.

I am trained as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.  This means that I am trained in a variety of approaches and can adapt my practice to what would be most beneficial to a particular client with their particular situation.  I find this helpful as I can make the therapy fit the client rather than expecting the client to adapt to the style of therapy.  I am knowledgeable in the areas of Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Attachment and Trauma Therapies (including body-orientated approaches).  I always work relationally as it is the relationship between the therapist and client that offers the best opportunity for change.

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

People often ask me this!  For me, psychotherapy is more in depth, often long-term work and requires the therapist to be more knowledgeable with working with complex issues.  I am able to offer both counselling and psychotherapy according to need.  You do not need to decide which would be best for you as I can adapt accordingly and I charge the same rate for both.

What Issues Do You Work With?

I work with a wide variety of issues.  In our first session I would find out about what you wished to work on and we would decide together if I am the right person for you to work with.  If the decision is for you to find someone else, then I would help you to find the right person for you.  Alternatively, contact me and see if I work with the issue you are particularly keen to address.

It is often the case that clients come to me wanting to work on one area of their lives and this then leads to focusing on other issues.  I am able to be completely flexible in this.

As a foster-adopt parent and the founder of Belong Therapeutic Support, I am widely known for my work with parents and professionals in fostering and adoption.  I love working in this area.  However, I also really enjoy building helpful relationships with people from different walks of life and supporting them with a variety of issues.  I have yet to work with any parent solely on what is going on for their child – we always end up talking about other issues anyway!  I will probably always work in fostering and adoption to some extent and have gained huge knowledge and experience around supporting people with very difficult experiences as a result.  However, I now also work across other counselling and psychotherapy fields.

When, Where and How Much?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes.  They usually are weekly but some people prefer more or less frequent and I can usually be flexible if this is in their best interest.  Session are held in my therapy room in Solihull (B94 area), over the phone or via video calling.  Sessions for individuals cost £50 each and for couples cost £55 per session.  I have some sessions available at a lower rate for those who may struggle to meet these costs – please contact me for availability.

I am able to work with families.  The cost of these sessions depends on the complexity of the issues being addressed and range from £60-90 per session.
